Victam LatAm 2025: Amandus Kahl and TMSA promote feed digestibility with their expander technology
Akahl
Amandus Kahl's in-house expander technology helps feed manufacturers worldwide optimize animal health, feed hygiene, and economic efficiency. From September 16 to 18, at VICTAM LatAm 2025 in São Paulo, Brazil, the Reinbek-based machine manufacturer will demonstrate the crucial role of expanders in modern feed production. They will present this alongside their Brazilian representative, TMSA, and their sister company, Schule Mühlenbau.
Demand is growing for hygienic, digestible, and economical feed in pig, cattle, and poultry farming. Amandus Kahl addresses these challenges with its proven KAHL expander technology. Widely used in modern feed mills worldwide, this technology is regarded as a crucial step in ensuring the hygienic and nutrient-optimized conditioning of feed components. At the São Paulo trade fair, TMSA, the KAHL Group's direct contact in Brazil and agricultural technology specialist, will demonstrate how the expander works using a 3D model.
More efficient processing and targeted feeding
The KAHL expander effectively conditions feed components. It is ideal for mixing, kneading, homogenizing, agglomeration, and short-term conditioning. In a closed system, moisture, pressure, and temperature are precisely controlled and combined to break down plant cell structures, eliminate pathogenic germs, and make nutrients more readily available. Expansion is a critical hygiene step, especially for non-pelleted feed formulations, such as those used for laying hens, as it effectively eliminates germs and pathogens, including salmonella. For fattening poultry, piglets, and sows, targeted starch modification in a KAHL expander with a crown outlet significantly improves digestibility and nutrient utilization. This directly impacts animal health and performance.
At the same time, pretreatment with the expander significantly increases the pelleting capacity. Feed mixtures that have undergone mechanical and thermal pretreatment are easier to pellet. The result is a 20-30% increase in throughput, better pellet quality, and reduced wear.
Schule Mühlenbau specializes in serving milling companies. This long-standing company provides processing solutions for rice, oats, grains, and legumes, including the production of protein-rich ingredients for plant-based foods. Together, TMSA, Amandus Kahl, and Schule will showcase the technological diversity of the KAHL Group at booth 3030 at VICTAM LatAm 2025. They offer solutions that improve quality, efficiency, and sustainability in the feed industry. These solutions cover everything from husking and processing grains, legumes, and oilseeds to conditioning, hygienizing, and refining feed components to efficient pelleting.
