Properly dried raw material is an important prerequisite for the production of high-quality pellets. With the belt driers of AMANDUS KAHL, crushed products from different industries can be dried successfully and energy-efficiently to the required residual moisture content. Due to their properties, biomasses like wood require a special drying process. The KAHL fabric belt drier not only produces a product-dependent final moisture content of 8 to 13 percent, but also dries the product in a gentle, sustainable and economic way.
The manufacturing range of AMANDUS KAHL comprises about 40 different machines, including machines for drying and cooling of various types of ground product. Since the products differ in their properties, different machines are required to ensure optimum drying for the best possible further processing. The KAHL fabric belt drier is especially suited for biomasses such as wood, straw, hay, or other long-fibre products. Its special properties facilitate the drying of biomasses, which often have a higher initial moisture content than other materials.
Technical Requirements and Options for Biomasses such as Wood
Wood is a moisture-binding natural product. Fresh wood can have a water content of over 40 percent. For further use, however, a water content of between 8 and 16 percent is required. The fabric belt drier provides the optimum technical conditions for drying the product to this percentage.
The KAHL fabric belt drier distinguishes itself from conventional driers and coolers by its tightly woven synthetic fabric belt, the use of which offers two further advantages: The product to be dried is not only transported, but at the same time the exhaust air is filtered to comply with the legal limit of dust particles in the exhaust air. Independent measurements have shown that the particle concentration was on average less than half the permitted value.
In addition, the fabric belt drier is provided with an automatic cleaning function that prevents the belt openings from being clogged with wood particles. Due to the low inlet air temperatures of less than 120°C required, the fabric belt drier is ideally suited to use waste heat from combined heat and power generation. Another advantage is the low concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the exhaust air and the resulting in low odour emissions.
The product feeding system allows a constant layer height in the drier, even if the input product and throughput rates vary significantly. A likewise uniform final moisture content after drying is ensured by specially adapted turn-over devices.
Automated on-line measurement of the moisture in the product ensures that the drier is constantly operated at optimum energy consumption and that the residual moisture remains at a defined value.
KAHL fabric belt driers can have a process belt width of 4 or 6 metres. The process belt length is between 8 and 50 metres. Due to its modular design, the fabric belt drier can be easily varied in length and width.
All Advantages of the KAHL Fabric Belt Drier at a Glance
The KAHL fabric belt drier offers a large range of benefits. In addition to convective and gentle drying with hot air, the drier is characterised by a modular design so that it can be individually adapted to the respective product. The throughput and desired heat source, such as hot water or saturated steam, can also be specifically adjusted. The plastic fabric belt used not only dries biomasses optimally and in the gentlest possible way, but also serves as a filter medium for the exhaust air. The intelligent KAHL control system ensures optimum and at the same time economic drying. Visualizations enable customers to directly monitor the relevant operating and process parameters. Automatic operation, comprehensive safety systems and a maintenance-friendly design are further important features of the KAHL fabric belt drier.
Optimum pre-grinding is also essential for efficient drying of wood chips. Apart from driers, AMANDUS KAHL also designs and manufactures pan grinder mills for efficient wood grinding. These are characterized by energy efficiency and sturdiness and can be easily adapted to varying product sizes.
